Ussr Ww Ii Soviet Issued Medal For Defense Of LeningradUp for auction is a ww ii issue soviet state issued medal for members of the soviet amred forces who participated in the defense of leningrad, in the great patriotic war. Leningrad, now st petersburg, was a city under seige from the germans for 872 days, during world war 2 (or the great patriotic war, by the soviet people). This was from september 1941 until january 1944. It was one of the most destructive and lethal seiges upon a city in modern history. The medal was meant to honor the defenders of thsi city.
The meadl itself is an o ring type and made of brass, with an aluminum, 5 sided suspension unit. The connecting ring is broken and probably not original. The medal has an even patina, with many dings and scratches. Soviet soldiers commonly wore their medals and orders into battle, btw. The ribbon is soiled.
Ribbon and aluminum suspension are not original. A really nice, history enriching artifact of the war, in my opinion, and worthy of your consideration. If you opt not to get insurance, i will no longer be responsible for your parcel once i place it into the hands of the usps. Note for interested foreign bidders i do not ship to africa, the middle east, north korea, cuba, etc. The same rules for foreign bidders will apply, pertaining to insurance. This will eb an extra cost to you, depending on availability and price. I will not be responsible for any damage to your item(s), at the hands of your customs authorities, should they open up the parcel and inspect. Money orders must be in us dollars and will be accepted from us bidders/winners only. American express or usps money orders, only. All foreign bidders/winners must use paypal.
